Dr Chris Yeates B.V.Sc.  advised Heavy Thunder Down Under about the KISS principle when worming our heavy equine friends.  In an interview with Dr Yeates he recommended that all horses should be wormed strategically in Autumn, Spring and Mid Summer.  Alternating worming compounds to prevent worms from becoming "resistant" to particular types of wormers.  Our heavy horses should be wormed with boticides after the first frost in Autumn.  The reason for this is in Australia, bot flies are particularly active during the warmer months & dormant in the cooler months.  Horses lick their legs and ingest the eggs.  The eggs then develop over winter in the animals gastrointestinal tract until spring when they are passed from the horses system in fecal matter.  The eggs hatch into bot flies and so the cycle continues.  If you adopt this strategy boticides in Spring or Summer should not be necessary.

Thank you Dr Yeates for your valuable input.  So come on Australia, lets Keep It Simple and help keep our precious heavy horses healthy and worm free.

Did you know,  people should worm themselves the same time as they do their animals?   Didn't know?  Well there you go!
